    • Synopsis
    • Martina’s Search is the story of Martina Garcia, a 75 year-old Argentine widow, who for over three decades has been searching for her grandson born into captivity during the military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Her only daughter, Lourdes – three months pregnant at the time – was kidnapped by military personnel and had given birth to a boy in the same cell in which she had been held throughout her entire pregnancy. Untiring, Martina never loses hope of one day finding the boy and being able to salvage a bit of her own past.
The necessity of finding her grandson becomes even more urgent when Martina realizes that her memory is being affected by old age. Past and present mix and mingle to the point where it is practically impossible for her to distinguish one from the other. Ever more frequent and longer-lasting memory lapses increase her fears of not being able to fulfill her life-long mission. Martina tells no one of her condition and struggles to preserve what is left of her memory. She must hold her memory loss at bay long enough for her to find her grandson, of whom she has no photos, memories or any other type of concrete information which might facilitate her search.
One day, Martina is informed that her grandson is living in Brazil. Despite her waning memory, she takes up her search, following tracks which, with a little luck, will lead her to her supposed grandson, a young man, 31, who lives off small scams. Past memories – a myriad of vague memories, sometimes wonderful, sometimes terrible – mingle in with the present, making Martina’s solitary journey a dizzying struggle against time and oblivion.
