    • Synopsis
    • The film is set in present time in a small Bosnian town on the main road to Belgrade, which has lost all the good sides of the rural and gained all bad sides of the urban. Through the two main characters the film parallelly follows the lives of two families – one who managed adapting to the new way of life and who is struggling to.
Twenty years old Marko is a role model son. He lives in a sumptuous countryside house with his parent, helps his truck-driving father and dreams of passing the driving exam so that he can finally take tours on his own. He is responsible, diligent, well-behaved, has a good relationship with his father... A relationship that sometimes resembles that of an employer and employee. Marko fulfills his tasks and in return receives pocket money, accommodation and food. He lives a simple and dull life. Deep inside he knows he would like more excitement in his life, but he never defined what exactly could that be. Alone at night, he often watches violent films. If someone asks he says he's content. Those who know him envy him for having money, but don't take it against him because he is generous in sharing his wealth with friends, which is one of his older mates' motives for hanging out with him.
During one of their tours, Marko and his father stop in front of a bakery shop on the main road. There Marko meets Jovana, who is on her first day of work. She comes from an ex-farmer's family that struggles with surviving. Her father is displeased with her behavior, 'wasting of time', the fact that she's not planning to get married soon... Actually he is most dissatisfied with himself and the fact that he never gave her a solid alternative to her way of living. She meets him in passing, when leaving for work or coming back from the club. Days look alike. Nothing good is happening, but nothing terrible either. Although she would like to change her surroundings, to escape for the big city she sees in TV shows, she never had the guts to actually take that step. She takes the pressure out every Friday night in the local club by getting drunk and dancing or kissing with whoever comes in handy. She dresses herself provocatively and people talk about her, which gnaws her father.
One night in the club Marko's friends hit on Jovana and her friend who turn them down. Later at the parking lot of the club they meet again, the boys being more and more aggressive. Tension grows until Jovana's friend starts running. His friends chase them. Marko gets out of the club at that point and starts running after them, not knowing what's going on. Jovana's friend manages to escape, but Marko's friends catch up with Jovana and rape her. Marko doesn't take part, but doesn't do anything to stop it either.
Two months later, Marko can't deal with the fact he did nothing to prevent the rape, and even less with the fact this kind of gruesome events could take part in his life as well, not only in films. He is burdened by guilt, but still incapable of taking action. He tries to find her in the bakery, but she isn't there.
Jovana is at home, realizing she is pregnant and that her stomach will soon be noticeable, which would finally make her life in the village unbearable.
One of Marko's friends comes to the bakery with his girlfriend. He buys bread acting as if nothing had happened. She recognizes him but doesn't act.
Next night she packs all her stuff and goes out on the road to hitch-hike. A truck stops by and she enters. Inside is Marko, whom she doesn't recognize. Marko helps her escape, which gives him a chance to redeem himself for his ignoble behavior.
