    • Synopsis
    • In this modern-day interpretation of William Shakespeare's MACBETH, which stays true to the original storyline and language, the once noble and virtuous General Macbeth falls prey to the seductive allure of ambition, after meeting three Witches, who predict he will eventually become King, something that would not happen in the kingdom's current hierarchy. When he shares the royal prediction with his wife, she encourages him to kill the King, while she handles the coverup. The tragic flaw of their plot to assume power is that General Banquo, who is Macbeth's dear friend, also witnessed the Witches' predictions. Banquo becomes suspicious after the King is murdered in Macbeth's home. Macbeth soon orchestras the murder of Banquo and attempts⁹ to murder his son, but the boy escapes. Macbeth acclaims "Blood will have blood" as both he and Lady Macbeth become overwhelmed to guilt and the horror of the actual killings, leaving them both on edge of maddness, with Macbeth is even believing he is being haunted by the Ghost of Banquo. Macbeth's paranoia leads him to also fear that the noble and righteous General MacDuff, who has always been Macbeth's competitor, will join forces with Malcolm, the King's son and rightful heir to the thrown, who was forced into exile, due to Macbeth blaming him for the murder of his own father. Macbeth orders the killing of MacDuff's wife and children, in this endless cycle of murder, that eventually drives Lady Macbeth to kill herself, leaving Macbeth alone, rejected by other nobles, and abandoned by his own army. In a final confrontation, Macbeth is killed by MacDuff and the King's son Malcolm assumes the throne.
The fatal flaw of yearning for power and dominance has catalyzed his tragic undoing, causing a once noble-hearted hero to become overwhelmed by the darkness of ruthless ambition.
