- Three years have passed since Elling moved to town with Kjell Bjarne, his roommate from the institution. Elling now lives alone, as Kjell Bjarne has moved upstairs to Reidun and her little daughter Mojo. Although they remain an important part of his life, it soon becomes evident to Elling that something essential is missing, and one evening he spots the woman he is convinced will be able to fill this void. He is willing to do anything to win her trust and her love, and seems for a while to succeed beyond his wildest expectations. But when he is invited home to his new girlfriend for dinner, things don't go quite the way Elling had planned.
