    • Noelia, a 40-year-old Puerto Rican artist, learns of her worsening health after a stage of remission from colon cancer.
Despite the insistence of Jorge, her partner for over ten years, she refuses to resume a heavy treatment and decides to return to Vieques, the small Caribbean island where she grew up and where her mother Flora still lives.
She sets out to reconnect with the beauty of her land but also with the disease of her island, confronted with the consequences of 60 years of military exercises by the American Navy.

As soon as she arrives, her path crossed that of Juni, a former childhood friend, with whom she remembers the escapades of adolescents in Navy bunkers, a territory then "forbidden to the population".
Noelia finds her childhood home, benefits from maternal care, but still faces the same family tensions, because of her mother's choice to work for the company in charge of cleaning up the still contaminated soil.
However, she herself keeps her state of health secret in order to live with the freedom that she lacked.
Noelia gets closer to Juni, but also to María, a community leader who will help her cope with relapses of her illness, given the almost non-existent access to medical care on the island.

Approaching a hurricane that intensifies, Jorge arrives by surprise in search of Noelia. Everyone tries to convince her to return to a safe place, but Noelia is determined to stay despite her fragile health and decides to collaborate with María and Juni to produce a photo report on the bombs still lying at the bottom of the ocean. Underwater, she faces an accident with her colostomy and Jorge provides her with the care practiced for so many years.

When the hurricane arrives, the family unites and prepares, giving Noelia the support she needs and respecting her decisions during her end-of-life process.
