    • Synopsis
    • A group of members of radio La Colifata, who were previously interned, go on with their lives outside the mental hospital, and insist on their struggle to find their own place in society. They participate on the programs and actions of La Colifata Association, which has been active for over 23 years, leading a change to the paradigm related to mental suffering treatment and the way society looks at psychic pain. Fernando, Hugo, Miki, Eduardo, Diego, Maria Silvina, Julio and Jagger show us their daily life, their achievements, pains, difficulties and their endless commitment to have a better life, feel well and be accepted. As José Maria Cabrera, one of the founding members said: “We’ve been struggling for years… years of harsh waiting… in order to feel well”.

Alfredo Olivera, founding psychologist of La Colifata, immigrated to France and is now leading radio projects on the public health system there. He created La Colifata France, an association that supports and publicizes multiples experiences where the radio is used as a tool for health. He still acts as President of the Civil Association of La Colifata in Argentina, moving on the Colifata 24 hrs project.

Other European radios, inspired on the Buenos Aires model, are implementing and enhancing it in connection with their local reality. We visit Radio Totalnormal, in Sweden, Radio Senza Muri in Italy, Radio Nikosia in Barcelona, Voice of Madness on air in The Balkans and Radio Aurora Outra Voz in Lisbon.

A journey from welfare societies, through countries that suffered the Central European crisis, deepening into post war societies such as Bosnia, always using Argentina as the anchor source country. A route through different societies, socio-political contexts and idiosyncrasies with a common background: the problem of the so called mad.

It’s a present and universal story where a group of people and organizations launch a new point of view about mental health and psychic suffering, building creative situations that lead to meetings at a social level. A moving, committed and human story.
