Laura Ramos, a 17 years-old woman from Bahía Blanca vanished 20 days ago. She left home to visit a friend and nobody has heard from her since. Her father, Federico Ramos, a provincial legislator is searching for her desperately. The national media has put her picture on the covers of the papers, magazines and newscasts. The latest rumor is that she has been spotted in Mar del Pinar. Daniel Johnson is s 42 years-old writer. He’s from Buenos Aires, but is now staying for a few weeks in a house in Mar del Pinar wich belongs to his friend María Heller. Her and the rest of the inner circle of friends (Alejandra, Flora, Gustavo, Juan) will arrive a few days later to spend the holidays with Daniel. Daniel barely knows Laura. They spend a few days together until Laura disappears again. When he finds out who she is and that the whole country is looking for her, he decides to keep quiet. He doesn’t want his girlfriend to find out, nor does he knows how to explain things to the police. Jorge Pelazas is a police detective. He’s 48 and has been working as a detective for 25 years. He’s in charge of the case and travels to Mar del Pinar with his assistant Martín Melendez. Pelazas and Melendez arrive at the coast at the same time as María and Alejandra. Juan, Flora and Gustavo will follow a few days later. Joaquín and Sabrina, journalist from CN Buenos Aires, will also arrive shortly. Thieves steal from María and Daniel’s house and take sone of Laura’s belongings. Her cell phone signal will convince Pelazas to investigate them. The story of The House by the Sea is the story of Laura Ramos’ disappearence and the investigation Pelazas takes charge. But it’s also the story of Daniel and his friends, their secrets and resentments. How far are they willing to go for a friend? What are the limits? Is loyalty more important than moral and ethics?
