    • Synopsis
    • Ramdei’s wish to take a once–in-a-lifetime holy dip at the Kumbhmela is fulfilled when her only son takes his entire family to Allahabad, the site of the Kumbh.

Set at the picturesque bank of the river Ganges, the Kumbhmela is renowned for being the world's most sacred Hindu pilgrimage where millions – some say 100 million –descend to take a dip in the holy waters. To put it in perspective, that’s about 10% of India’s population. The highlight of this festival is the ritual bath, which according to Hindu beliefs cleanses them of their sins. The Kumbh, however, takes its toll –many are lost or separated from their loved ones in this sea of people.
But what is really gut-wrenching is that thousands of pilgrims arrive with their old and helpless parents only to abandon them under the guise of false promises of a better life.

Here we are forced to ask ourselves …

What deeds are these, which thrive under the pretext of goodness?

What deception is this, which breeds under the name of religion?

What love is this, which believes in seeking everything at the cost of sacrificing your dear ones?

Amongst the chants of the sadhus, the ringing of the temple bells, and lost in a crowd of millions who have come for eternal salvation, Ramdei discovers the real game of life as she is forced to fight not only for her survival but also for her identity.

The “Kumbhmelaa” is a heroic story of Ramdei who displays daunting courage by braving her situation and fighting for her rights.

“Kumbhmelaa” is inspired from an award winning short story written by Usha Bhatnagar called “Main Zinda Hoon”.
