    • Synopsis
    • The film is set in South Africa between 1562 to +/- 1585 and tells the story of a young Khoi girl, Krotoa, who is brought into Jan van Riebeeck's fort as an 11 year old, and then became his chief translator and interpreter with the local tribes. Jan Van Riebeeck was the first Governor of the Cape as part of the VOC (Dutch East- India Company). Krotoa married a Danish Doctor Pieter van Mierhoff. Her marriage to Van Mierhoff is the first recorded bi- racial marriage recorded in South Africa, and as such Krotoa is a figure of historical significance.
