    • Synopsis
    • Inspired by Elephant, Alan Clarke’s 1989 film about the violent killings happening in Northern Ireland at the time, Killings swaps the sectarian murders in Belfast during the 80's with the extra judicial killings currently occurring in Manila today as President Rodrigo Duterte's "War on Drugs" rages on. Killings uses no narrative or characterization only focusing on the act of killing itself. Through a series of brutal killings, the film examines how the police and the perpetrators commit these acts with total impunity, and the widespread apathy for the victims. The film’s unsentimental and detached look at the killings mirrors the widespread apathy for the victims and questions the impunity given to the vigilantes by the Philippines government.
