The film restricts itself to the Kamli’s point of view of the happenings that led her to bring up the two children who have accompanied her to demolish the hospital.
Kamli and Redya are wayside laborers in the city of Hyderabad, who have migrated from their tribal Tanda in search of a living. Kamli under the pressure of tribal community, which is known to indulge in female feticide and killing infant girls on their birth, considering them as ill omen, has sold a girl child earlier in her hamlet, much against her wishes. She is once again pregnant in the city. Her husband Redya, feels that it is wise to sell the child -- if it is a female – to get rid of his debts.
The male child that she delivers in a local government run hospital, is swapped and a female baby is kept in its place. While she sits in protest against this injustice Redya sees an opportunity to sell away the child, and get rid of his debts, but kamli protests. Frustrated Redya leaves never to return. The hospital calls her mad, and enacting a drama to get rid of the female baby.
The media picks up her protest in front of the hospital, as Government orders a DNA test on the child. When it is proved that the female baby is not hers, the orderlies, who indulged in selling away the male child to parents who did not like a girl baby having born, return the swapped baby. When her child is restored, learning that the baby girl is now an orphan, unwanted by its parents, she takes a momentous decision and takes the baby girl also with her.
