Just like in Nina Simone’s famous song ‘Ain’t got no’ our main character, 37 year old JESSE
ain’t got no job, no schooling, no class, no children, no man, no mother, but she has got life!!!
JESSE UPSIDE DOWN is a painful and humoristic portrait of a remarkable woman who makes a total mess of her life, over and over again.

We follow Jesse for a year. We meet her in summer and see her stumbling through life. Clumsily screwing up job interviews. Dropping around at friends’ houses, desperate to get a meal, some love and attention and a warm bed. As long as she doesn't have to be on her own. We get to know her fears while visiting the doctor, as she is afraid of liver failure and all sorts of other illnesses. We see her messing about with strange men in shady bars, searching for love. We see her lying about stupid things, when she is unable to express what she really wants.
We witness all of her failures in life.

But we also see her lust for life, her contagious humor and her special view on the world. She teaches us various incredible magician tricks, and tells us stories about the universe.
We see how her unorthodox view on life helps her friends to review their own situation. And how her friends try to help her. How they get angry and disappointed, or how some of them gradually come to except the way she is. We begin to like her, perhaps even love her.

We see the weather, and nature alongside it, change with the seasons. We see how Jesse herself changes physically, a different hair color, a new tattoo, from her skinny tanned legs in shorts to her puny body wrapped in thick layers of winter clothes. We start to hope change is possible after all?

But then Jesse becomes entangled in one of her stupid lies when she tells her best friends her purse has been stolen. When her friends ask her what the robber looked like, by accident Jesse describes someone who actually lives in the neighborhood. A man is accused wrongfully, and Jesse loses her best friends.
She is devastated. And we can’t help but wonder if this is the catharsis we have been waiting for. Will she finally see that she has to adapt to ‘normal’ life?

But when we say goodbye to Jesse by the end of the spring, just before a new summer, everything is exactly the same as a year ago.
