    • Synopsis
    • In the Ukrainian Carpathians we meet Isa, a 14-year-old Roma boy. He lives with his family in a run down settlement in the outskirts of Uzhgorod, the regional capital. Isa's father is in prison. So he and his brother Milan are struggling to raise money for the family.
A while ago they realized how much money the local smugglers make, running alcohol and cigarettes across the european border. So one day, they decide to steal from these smugglers. This is highly dangerous and punishment would be cruel, but Isa and Milan trust each other blindly. The money is tempting, so they continue their raids. One night, the smugglers assault the brothers and Milan gets killed. Isa is shocked and desperate. He discovers one of the smuggling tunnels under the border and disappears in it.

We meet Isa again in Berlin. Isa found shelter with two hedonists. Kurt and Constantin. They are entertainers at high society parties in Berlin and commit smalltime frauds. He developed a cautious friendship with the two. In his wanderings in the nearby forest, he meets Detlef, an elderly man, who lives in seclusion and poverty. Detlef teaches him how to hunt and arranges a room for Isa. He also helps him to cope with the memories of his dead brother. Later, Kurt and Constantin run into money trouble and want to rob a jewelry store. Isa refuses, but is forced to join them. As expected, everything goes wrong. Kurt and a police officer are killed. However, Isa escapes with the loot. He leaves some money for Detlef and hides in a truck at the highway.

We meet Isa in the house of his girlfriend Sarah. Sarah is the daughter of a Spanish politician. Sarah's father accepts her relationship to Isa, but he wants to include the boy in his election campaign. Isa hates the idea. He knows it would end badly because of his past. In Spain, Isa lives in a hut on the beach and works at a golf course. He spends a lot of time with Sarah and is happier than before. In Pavlo, a Ukrainian guest worker, he found a friend and a connection to home. Through the summer, Isa feels more and more followed and watched. He suspects the opponents of Sarah's father, or even the police. He gets nervous and therefore loses his job. As he argues with Sarah about this, he decides to run again. He grabs his bag and disappears. Near the city, he works on a plantation among African immigrants. It's hard for him, but he's sure no one can find him there. Finally, Pavlo tracks him down and persuades him to come back. There, he suddenly meets Constantin. It was he who followed him the whole time. Now he asks for jewels from the heist in Berlin. Isa leads him to the hiding place and a fight between the two breaks out. Isa manages to overwhelm Constantin. At the ocean, he washes the blood away. Standing on the beach, Isa is not the young boy from Ukraine anymore, but a young man who takes his life in his own hands. He starts looking for Sarah, finds her and quietly falls asleep beside her.
