    • Synopsis
    • Celebrated artist Jack Zeffa is hired by nightclub owner Bill Kazak to paint a portrait of his wife Ruby, a damaged beauty trapped in an abusive marriage.

In the intimacy of his studio, as Jack paints her, Ruby’s insights show him a way to break from a tortured past that has been smothering his artistic capabilities. Taken seriously by a man for the first time in her life, Ruby sees in Jack a future beyond the darkness she has endured in her marriage to Kazak.  Artist and subject fall passionately in love. But the nightclub owner’s jealous suspicions grow and explode into violence. The lovers, fearful for their lives, fight back, hijacking Kazak’s attempt to kill them.

They drug him and drive him into the lake in his car. Kazak should drown, but he survives and vows revenge.

As the enraged nightclub owner comes gunning for them, Jack discovers Ruby in an embrace with another man. He begins to suspect that Ruby has seduced him into killing Kazak, not for love but for money, and that the other man is her real lover, leaving Jack as the patsy. Fear and suspicion tear the lovers apart.

When Jack finds out Kazak has abducted Ruby and is taking her on a journey to certain death, Jack must choose: escape from a ruthless killer, or turn back and fight to save the woman who may have betrayed him. Whatever Jack’s decision, he knows someone’s going to die.
