Ibrahim Al-Abed, my father, was a member of the Revolutionary Council (also known as the Abou-Nidal Organisation), a secret militant entity known for its notorious intelligence affairs. In 1987, we were living in Damascus. I was 5 years old when Ibrahim left for a short mission. He never came back. I grew up in a house where silence was very usual. Najat, my Egyptian mother, carried on with life as if nothing had happened and raised her five children in Damascus, blaming only her misfortune.
My film deals with the story behind the disappearance of my father, a subject that was never talked about in our family. I hope that by understanding the choices my father made, I will be able to live with how that has influenced me in making my own choices today.
