    • Synopsis
    • The desert wasteland near the Mexico/US border is the front line of America's escalating war on illegal immigration. Some struggle to cross the divide; others fight to keep it closed, while still others clearly exploit it. Highway toNowhere captures each of these players, interweaving three stories to cast an unflinching light on this dry, unforgiving land where for many the quest for the American Dream dies.
Border Patrol Officer Miller is clearly conflicted; a naturalized US citizen with Mexican roots, Miller finds himself the perpetual outsider. He is torn between his loyalty to his adopted country and his sympathies for the Mexican nationals who are, after all, his people. This leaves him at odds with his own heritage, while his teenage daughter tries to discover hers.
Meanwhile, Hector is not conflicted. The border is all that stands between him and his cherished wife Ana, whom he has not seen for two years. To Hector, the desert is merely an obstacle he and his ten year-old daughter, Cecilia must crossto reunite their family. They gear up for this perilous trek with excitement and trepidation.
Traveling illegally between these two countries, Carlos and Freddie turn their entrepreneurial ambitions towards human trafficking. While Freddie's motivation is merely greed, Carlos enters the desert desperately seeking approval from oneman – his father.
The hopes and dreams of these characters place them on journeys that, once set in motion, careen towards an inevitable collision. None of them will ever be the same as they learn the bitter truth about how devotion, courage, responsibility and failed dreams can change our worlds forever.
