Documentary - Development 2018

In 1987 Giuliano Montaldo directed “The gold-rimmed glasses", set in Ferrara in 1938. The theme of homosexuality is mistreated, hidden and forced into the shadows. Today, the social pillory is still tightening on the "different", creating the social texture of intolerance.

    • Synopsis
    • In 1987 Giuliano Montaldo directed "The gold-rimmed glasses", a film based on the novel of the same name by Giorgio Bassani: Ferrara in 1938 A Jewish family and a homosexual doctor suffered persecution and discrimination in the Italy of Fascism. Today, thirty years after its release, the film has not lost its strength, on the contrary, paradoxically it has acquired it, because sexual discrimination has not disappeared, it is more subtle, masked by modern approval.
A narrative level with Montaldo's words will lead us through the working of the film, telling why he chose this story, how he worked on the screenplay, what the production difficulties are. In addition, there will be the voices of the actors, Rupert Everett, Valeria Golino, Stefania Sandrelli
and the other beautiful actors who were part of the cast.
The other narrative level will be interwoven and mixed with the story of Julian and Vera, the story of discrimination, repression, homosexuality, men and women who for centuries have been persecuted, marginalized, killed for the mere fact of not following the canons imposed by morality.
