    • Synopsis
    • Equal measures of David Lynch and Terrence Malick, with nods to classics GIANT and THE WIZARD OF OZ, Martin Scorsese protégé and award winning Director Derick Martini brings us an emotive, often funny but compelling story about 13 year old Luli’s life on the road and the extraordinary experiences that will shape her life forever.
Subject to her parents daily drunken fighting and now at an age where she’s attracting the eye of local men, Luli (CHLOE GRACE MORETZ) decides to run away from home and hit the road for Vegas with her Smith and Wesson .45 pistol in tow. Wiley and smart as a whip - but ultimately still very naïve - she hitches a ride with a James Dean hearkening Eddie (EDDIE REDMAYNE). But her feisty attitude does not go over well and he soon kicks her to the curb, only for their paths to cross again later in the most sinister of circumstances. And when Luli meets a grifter called Glenda (BLAKE LIVELY), who takes her under her wing, it’s not long before Luli is an accomplice on the run…
Whatever is thrown at young Luli only makes her stronger and more defiant, and yet somehow she is able to remain undefeated and undeterred from her goal for a better life, and it is this courage that makes HICK an incredible story and an inspiration to all.
Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by Andrea Portes, HICK is Raymond Carver-esque, disarmingly provocative and with delicious dialogue delivered by a killer ensemble cast.
One of the most stylish, provocative and yet heartfelt coming of age stories of recent years, HICK is BONNIE AND CLYDE meets WILD AT HEART.
