    • Synopsis
    • Set in Los Angeles, California and Cairo, Egypt during the searing heat of a contemporary summer, HEATSROKE is a surreal drama about the ruptured relation between two women--NIKKI, a ravishing movie-star that lives in LA and her younger sister JANET--the wife of a diplomat, living in Cairo. The film's root is a violent-- possibly sexual-- early trauma that sits in these women's psychic closet -- and this event's ripple effects against two very different cultural landscapes. The two women are deeply estranged not only from themselves, but also from each other, and the film's central drama is the celebrity Nikki's (unsuccessful) attempt to make meaningful contact with her sister. Using a fractured, but accessible narrative, and powerful, dream-like imagery, HEATSTROKE ultimately suggests the beginnings of a healing transformation.
