- Synopsis
- The movie "Grounding" relates, as mentioned in its subtitle, the last days of the Swiss Airline Company "Swissair" as well as the historic grounding of its fleet on October 2nd 2001, and investigates how this very grounding could actually have come to happen. Simultaneously, the movie recounts the actual destiny of the Top-Manager Mario A. Corti, the last and unlucky CEO of the traditional airline, a destiny which is closely affiliated with this event as are those of the great many nameless people who in the maelstrom of Swissair's decline and fall lose almost everything: their jobs, houses, and their faith in the former Switzerland.
  The dramatic peak of this emotional thriller is figured by the grounding of Tuesday, October 2, 2001 caused by a chain of unlucky and scheming happenings on the three preceding days.
  Not only does a company, which is reputed a "flying bank", break down this day but thousands of people are shocked, lose their jobs and future prospects, experience drama and tragedies, and despair of a world which they do not understand any more. Their destinies as well are realistically interwoven into the plot. Through the film "The Grounding of Swissair"
  evolves the picture of a Switzerland which, in the course of its history, has never been seen this way before. A Switzerland which has to pay for its delusions of grandeur of the New Economy during the 90ties and of the arrogance of power and money.
