The documentary Kneel (Grandson) brings the strong idea of reconciliation in the world full of hatred and xenophobia. It is the story of the Auschwitz commander’s grandson Rainier Hess who is symbolically adopted by a Holocaust survivor named Eva Moses Kr. Hans Rainier Hess broke off relations with his family and left home at the age of 15 when he discovered that his grandfather Rudolf Hess was responsible for the extermination of 2.5 million Jews in World War 2. Eva Moses Kr was a 10 year old child when she was deported to Auschwitz and exposed to SS doctor Joseph Melee’s deadly laboratory experiments with her twin sister Miriam. The two, with their specific experiences, are united in the struggle against neo-nazism, antisemitism, racism, nationalism and the fast growing anti-Islamism in the world.
