- Journalist Álvaro Iriarte and nurse Sofía Rothman’s passionate love making gets interrupted by the sound of sirens and people running that come from the nearest avenue.
  It is December 1939, and the badly wounded Admiral Graf Spee has just cast anchor for the night at the roadstead of the port of Montevi¬deo: World War II has bursted into this quiet and peaceful corner of the end of the world.
  The countdown has just begun; there is widespread expectation and uncertainty. In seven days, one of the most dramatic historical events in the newly started armed conflict will transpire.
  A long line of coffins draped in swastika-printed flags is unloaded from the ship and a silent funeral procession across the city’s main street ensues. It is heading towards the Northern Cemetery.
  The wounded are taken to different hospitals and nurse Rothman – of Jewish descent –, much to her chagrin, is aware that she will have to look after the lives of her enemies. Her grandparents died in Germany at the hands of anti-Semitic groups. Unbeknownst to her, one of those men will change the course of her life forever.
  Diplomatic intrigues and peremptory deadlines inexorably play out amidst espionage and counterintelligence operations. Key players in the conflict such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Alber¬to Guani, Eugene Millington Drake – the English ambassador –, Otto Langmann – his German counterpart –, and Captain Hans Langs¬dorff, which the plot will see emerge as rivals and dramatis personae of this drama, lobby on behalf of England, Germany and the US.
  Iriarte becomes obsessed with obtaining information and, risking his life, finds out that the Admiral Graf Spee is carrying four Enig¬ma machines, in addition to the code book for the North and South Atlantic. What he could have never imagined was what fate had in store for misguided yet honorable German captain Langsdorff, who, foreseeing his defeat and arrest, saves his crew and blows up his ship and all its secrets.
  At the end, he leaves a final letter next to the pistol he uses to end his life at a Navy lodging facility in Buenos Aires, the epilogue of a story marked by honor, deceit, love and hatred.
