    • Synopsis
    • YOUNG LEE (25) is a top-violinist living with her dominant mother in Seoul. To get her love Young has to do what she’s told, never what she wants to explore. In her need to be loved Young finds her sexual outlet in the brothels of the city. One day Young is attacked and wounded, her hand permanently damaged by a pimp.
Young and her mother move to Holland where she will play in a less demanding orchestra. The mother betrays Young by not telling her the truth: Young should not play anymore for the sake of her hand.
In the orchestra Young falls in love with Anke, an older Dutch woman, finding what she craves for: unconditional love, but not realizing it’s a substitute for the lack of motherly love.
Anke, who composes her own music and is working on a piece, inspires Young to compose as well. But her damaged hand gets worse and they go back to Korea for surgery, which ends Young’s career. The betrayal of the mother leads to Young’s decision to break with her mother and move back to Holland to start a new life.
But Anke suddenly passed away, being terminally ill and had not confided Young about it. Devastated Young tries to commit suicide unsuccessfully. She recovers at Anke’s parents in a small village.
At Anke’s funeral Young finally realizes that the love she is searching for has been in herself all along.
That to truly love, she must be able to love and accept herself.
She finishes Anke’s composition and leaves for Amsterdam to live her own life, in her own home, guided by the music that now flows from her soul.
