    • Synopsis
    • Enrique Michelin, the mayor of Surubí, a town on the brink of extinction, seeks to demonstrate a series of alleged miracles in an attempt to transform the place into a kind of holy land, as a last-ditch effort to survive. However, the threads of his staged performance are exposed when the actor hired to play Jesus Christ becomes convinced that he is actually a true prophet. The local parish priest acknowledges his divine powers, becoming his mentor. Nevertheless, the resistance of some and the violent fanaticism of others turn the new messiah into a martyr. Yet, in Surubí, there are always reasons to believe again.
