    • Synopsis
    • Between 1944 and 1945, Georges Rouquier spent a year with a family of farmers – his own relatives– on the farm Farrebique, situated in Goutrens in the Rouergue. The film takes us inside a family whose life is governed by the seasons, by the dinnertime ritual of the grandfather cutting and handing out slices of bread. Rouquier shows the hardships of this peasant existence on the eve of the introduction of electricity – and of the arrival of the forces of modernity about to change it radically. At the same time, Rouquier has a keen eye for the beauty of the characters, their simple ways, and their closeness to their animals and to nature.
