    • Synopsis
    • While telling about the fantastic world of the pictures made by Petr Zverkhovsky and about the world in which they have been creating and which is not fewer strange, the film’s authors try to open to the spectators one more “hidden diamond” of the Russian and Soviet painting born at the turn of the century.

“Escape from Troy” – is the painter’s choice made by him at the very beginning of his way. It is his internal migration, which became a characteristic particularity (and singularity) for all the Soviet art of the second half of the XX century. That is exactly why a great part of the works and names in the different fields of the creative activity inherent to that period remains terra incognita up to now.

Now the Western people know only two gradations of this art – Soviet and underground ones. However, really, there is a huge layer of culture, which may not be placed within these frameworks. This makes the film’s material to be typological. The movie does not only present the painter’s fate. Petr Zverkhovsky is not limited by the styles or directions, his art’s vector means to be above, upper, tangentially. The powerful M.M. Bakhtin said: A thought is a philosopher’s main action. Zverkhovsky takes these words on himself: A picture is a painter’s main action.

The internal emigration where the creator comes without seeing any sense to cross the everyday life – also mean an action, which may be realized only by few people. And today, in our century of all-out consumerism it is one of rare ways to preserve the islands of spirituality…

In the process of the film preparation the creative team faced the fact that the ordinary approaches applied in the genre so-called “a film about a painter” – became impossible in connection to Zverkhovsky. That is why instead of requiring from the author to explain his pictures, it was resolved to enable the pictures themselves to talk. And they enjoyed such a possibility. Besides, their appreciation of the Creator’s actions sometimes maybe sharp and hard-hitting. However, this complex dialogue of the heroes of the pictures and of their creator arise a multi-dimension representation concerning the creative work’s nature, the sources of inspiration, and the degree of impact of the reality which surrounds the painter on his destiny (spoiler – almost impacts in no way).

To “make alive” Homer, the fighters of Troy, the ladies in masks and other strange inhabitants of Zverkhovsky’s universe, the Seven Winds Art Foundation attracted a lot of painters and animators from all over the world: the specialists from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Canada and Israel participated in the work over the film.
Their work resulted in a convincing and original piece of art, which may transmit to the spectators all the sensual depth of Zverkhovsky’s universe although it may not do it to the full extent.
