    • The global corona virus pandemic has shown what it means to be crammed continuously into a small space for weeks. But there are people who seek such an adventure. The German engineer Carsten Standfuss has built the largest private submarine in the world throughout 15 years: 52 feet long with kitchen, bathroom, and a living space for 5 people. It’s a technical masterpiece and a venture into the tradition of submarine pioneers. First, a waterproof shell has to be created with the ability to dive and resist pressure so that man can breathe and survive in it. Then, the vessel needs to move and be maneuvered safely in the dark.
Carsten is the innovator who mastered all these challenges and built the largest private submarine in the world. 15 years of dedication, failures, tears and hope to finish his life achievement.
Why did he decide to do it anyway? What was the biggest challenge? What adventures has he planned with his vessel? What treasures does he hope to find? And what does it feel like? The documentary series undertakes a thrilling journey exploring the building, launching, and testing of the submarine and finally accompanies Carsten to his first diving expedition. It raises questions about the psychological consequences of trapped humans at a depth of hundreds of miles below the water surface and reveals fabulous mysteries and wonders yet to be discovered in the abyss.
