    • Synopsis
    • It’s 1987 and the infamous record, “O Death Where is Thy Sting?” by Jimmie Kane Baldwin, is about to be discovered among the dust and vast collection of vinyl in an old widow’s apartment in Chicago. Folklore says Jimmie recorded the song right after killing his girlfriend and her screams can be heard on the record, instantly driving the listener to insanity or suicide. Alan Thomas, a high school history teacher, receives a tip that the old widow has a collection of classic blues records primed for the taking. Before Alan can con the old lady out of the long lost record, Paul Bettis, the proud owner of the neighborhood record store, inserts himself into the mix. Now the only thing standing in Alan’s way is his bickering rival, an overprotective landlord and a terrible heat rash. The two begin a comical battle to cunningly out wit the other, win the old lady’s trust and sneak away with the infamous record for themselves. But fate takes over and the myth surrounding the record reveals its powerful death curse. The old widow suddenly dies and Alan and Paul are sent to fester away in prison. After serving 20 years, their rivalry is reignited by an unscrupulous lawyer also on the hunt for the infamous record. With the help of an attractive young accomplice, the con is back on and the record remains the ultimate prize. The only thing stopping Alan and Paul now is the curse itself and if they dare to give it a listen.
