    • Synopsis
    • When Valentine Hermann, a New Yorker, hears that his grandfather in Germany has died and left him a ‘datsche’, a summer cottage, he decides to leave his struggling acting career and swap Brooklyn for Berlin.
But instead of landing in the capital of cool Valentine finds himself on a garden allotment in former East Germany where the neighbours still act like it’s 1987, where there’s a garden ‘President’ that is keen for Valentine to sort out the weeds, and where there is a refugee, Adam, who has been denied asylum to Germany and is hiding in the datsche attic.
Valentine and Adam strike up a friendship but a nationalistic neighbour, Gregor, is suspicious of Valentine and begins spying on the datsche. When Valentine invites some strangers from the internet to stay at the datsche, he risks both his own inheritance and Adam’s future.
