    • Synopsis
    • In the year 1525 the Spanish under the command of Gonzalo Alvarado invaded the Mayan city of Xinabajul (known as the territory of Guatemala). After keeping the city under siege for several months, many people along with their king Kaibil Balam managed to escape and climb to the mountains of Cuchumatanes, sacred place of their origin. There, at 4,000 meters above the sea level, they shelter and live until today conserving their ancient Mayan practices and knowledge.
