    • Synopsis
    • Approximately 3200 years ago the first ceremonial sites where erected in the territory that is now known as Peru. In them a group of specialists – priests, heirs of the shamanic tradition – became theocratic governors who dominated the common folk. The most important of them was Chavin in Huantar.
Doctor John Rick, professor of archaeology at Stanford University together with Doctor Luis Lumbreras, one of Latin America’s most brilliant archaeologists, will try to help us unveil the mysteries that are housed within the stone walls of this ceremonial center.
Chavín de Huantar was actually a stage, a theatre where representations of the Heavens, the Earth and the Underworld took place. The priests, using a complex liturgy, reinforced their power standing before the pilgrims who came searching for answers. They would use hallucinogenic substances and all sorts of sound effects in order to manipulate the pilgrims´ perception when they submitted themselves to the terrifying rites of initiation. Everything was done to enhance their power of persuasion. This also represents the beginning of inequality for the cast of specialized priests stood on top of the social pyramid and maintained their authority and power for 800 years, without the need of an army to protect them.
Using 3D recreations, we plan on rebuilding the temple, exactly as it was constructed in its different phases. Dramatized sequences with actors and extras will guide us to the secret rituals that took place in the underground galleries and in the great squares where public ceremonies were held.
