    • Synopsis
    • 1978, the young Dr. Okabe believed it was all for the bright future of human being. Later, he was even more involved in high tech medical care until the day a patient refused his life support. Dr. Okabe started treating his terminal cancer patients at their own homes. But it was violation. He found his patients are much happier at their home. Four years later, he and professor Suzuki started their research on Thanatology. In 2010, Dr. Okabe had a hope to live yet but was stunned by finding fourth cancer. He felt like he was descending into the dark. In 2011, a big earthquake took one of his staffʼs life. He asked a monk to read a sutra for his colleagues who grieved, and it helped them to calm down. He invited religious person to his home and asked them to perform his end-of-life care.

      This is the story of a doctor, once in the field of the cutting-edge medicine, later dedicated half his life to revive the forgotten culture.

      The film depicts the importance of more natural ways of ending one's life through Dr. Okabe's view of life and death. While working with cutting-edge medicine, Dr. Okabe learned the value of home medical care and raised a question to the medical industry. This film is the story of Dr. Okabe as he works to establish the Clinical Cleric program to help the super-aging and death-ridden society (*) until his death of cancer.
      (* Japan has the highest proportion of seniors in the world. In the near future, more than 1.5 million people will be dying every year.)
