    • Synopsis
    • At the heart of the movie are characters JUNE and ALFRED, a married couple on the wrong side of 30 who are slowly starting to see the hopes and dreams they’ve long envisioned for their lives begin to fade away.

June is a struggling musician and her husband Alfred is a failed entrepreneur whose risky investments have placed the couple deep into debt. The fact that they’ve recently suffered a first-trimester miscarriage isn’t helping their relationship either. Packing their belongings into a moving van, Alfred and June leave behind the optimism of their old lives towards a future they are far more pessimistic about. They head up north on the I-5 to move back in with June’s parents in Los Gatos. Driving up the Grapevine, Alfred and June bicker back and forth, all but ignoring warning signs on the radio that there’s a dangerous man who’s escaped from a high-security mental ward in a nearby Central California town.

What looks to be a domestic drama between husband and wife suddenly veers off-course into a confined thriller at a rest stop. (This subtle genre-hopping is emblematic of our story.) That’s when a MYSTERIOUS STRANGER sneaks into the moving van and hides from his equally mysterious PURSUERS.

June and Alfred return to their van to find the Stranger aiming a gun at them. The Stranger forces the couple to quickly drive away and sneak past his Pursuers, who are racing around the rest area in search of the mysterious man.

It’s now a tense hostage situation in the car as Alfred and June try anything to escape and stay alive. It’s a cat and mouse scenario (both inside the car and out) as a psychological game ensues between Alfred, June, and the Stranger as the tension escalates.

As the car chase heads towards a fiery climax, the story swerves in an unexpected direction.
