    • Synopsis
    • Things have been going badly for Janine (32) since her mother died in an accident a few months back, leaving her an apartment that she is about to inherit, but barely interests her. She is feeling increasingly disconnected from everything: her friends, a job that doesn’t motivate her, and now she isn’t even sure that she still loves her partner Martín. Their relationship has become increasingly tense, and one day he gets fed up and leaves home. Not long after this, Janine sees some teenagers trying to rob a woman in the metro and screams to dissuade them. They desist, but in the end they go after her: they injure her, hit her, threaten her and record her home address with a mobile phone that they have used to film their aggression.
Janine escapes to a small village in the country, home to her father Manel (67), with whom she has a distant relationship. There she meets Francesc (40), a neighbour who helps her father look after his garden. And she also meets Toni (35), a guy who works in the nearest village and who seems to be interested in her, even though he has his own family. Janine conceals her injuries and her unhappiness from everyone, and tries to relax enough to be able to sleep properly again. She explores the area surrounding the village and finds a seemingly idyllic environment, where prostitutes station themselves on the roads and have some of the local men as clients. After a few days, Janine returns to the city to renew her sick leave and to talk to Martín. Their reunion turns into a confrontation, in which she nearly loses her self-control. They break up for good.
In her self-destructive spiral, back in the village, Janine seeks Toni out and has an intense, somewhat decadent, sexual experience. Manel goes on a trip for a few days and Janine is left alone. Meanwhile, she sees Francesc regularly. In spite his seemingly rough style, they understand each other, and Janine discovers a different way of life. She feels comfortable with him, although she suspects that he is with another woman. After a day out fishing, she relaxes and tells him about the mugging and he reproaches her for not reporting it: it bothers him that she is idealistic in some things, but a coward when it comes to others. After the misunderstanding with Francesc, she protects herself from him and goes out with Toni again. He takes her to the forest, with a prostitute, and tries to inside the three of them to have sex. Janine runs away and tries to crash them with the car.
When it is almost time for Janine to go back to work, Manel returns from his trip and is upset by the state he finds her in. Finally, they talk and share some of their pain. Manel tells her that Francesc lost his young son a few years back, and then separated from his wife. Janine tries to unblock her life and her heart. She reports the mugging in the metro. She sells her parents' apartment to some friends who had shown an interest in it and she stops working for a while. She goes back to the village and back to Francesc, to live the highs and lows together.
