    • Synopsis
    • Yugoslavia, spring 1991: Slovenia and Croatia make a referendum, in which 95 % of the population vote on the independence of their states. Borovo Village, near Vukovar, is the meeting point of a bloody shooting between Croatian police officers and soldiers of the Yugoslavian army. In all Yugoslavian states the nationalists leader take over the political control. There is a lack of electricity, water, cigarets. The People are upset. The smell of war is in the air. Red Star Belgrade achieves the finals of the European football championship.
BOGDAN (7) is living with his mother, aunt, cousins and his grandfather – an old, convinced communist - in a small village in Bosnia. On a small, battery-running TV, he sees Red Star reaching the Finals. For Bogdan it´s absolutely certain: the final game must bee seen. But when the adults take his tv-set away on the day of the finals to watch the News, Bogdan makes a desperate decision: he escapes from home, to get to his uncle´s coffeehouse in the big city.
With a bus, Bogdan arrives the city, but the searching for his uncle turns out to be more difficult as he imagine. He gets lost in a violent demonstration.
Meanwhile, his mother finds out what Bogdan did. She and the grandfather drive to the city by tractor to look for Bogdan.
Back in the city, Bogdan fights his way trough the escalating demonstration, meets different fanatics of different nationalities and realizes step by step, that Yugoslavia - which his grandfather preached him and in which Bogdan believes – does not exist anymore.
His mother and grandfather arrive the city and find Bogdan, but his grandfather gets shot. He survives, but when Bogdan tells to him “you´re lying to me grandfather, there´s no Yugoslavia any more”, the grandfather dies. And in this moment, a piece of his childish innocence dies in Bogdan himself.
