This contemporary thriller sees Jean, 19 and pregnant, set out to find her estranged mother, and discovers much much more. A road movie, which sees Jean find a brother Magpie she knows nothing about, and a world which she soon wishes she knew nothing about. Jean’s search for answers takes her from an Army barracks via a Midsummer Soltice Festival to an isolated farm house for the final confrontation with her newly found family. One hot summer’s night Jean abandons her regimented Army Barrack life to seek out the mother who abandoned her when she was a small child. This quickly leads her into the dangerous world of her half-brother, Magpie and her uncle, Leon. A world. based upon people-trafficking, which is falling apart – thanks to Magpie as far as Leon is concerned. Jean arrives in the middle of this chaos, where Magpie has just killed one of Leon’s henchmen in self-defence, and the two of them are forced to flee for their lives. With Leon on their trail, Magpie agrees to take Jean to see their mother, against his better, if raddled, judgement. On the road Jean discovers the truth about Magpie, and is faced with several moral choices about does she go with him, and does she believe him about their mother, Paula. Eventually, they fall into a trap set by Leon, with the collusion of Paula, and Jean has to face the reality of the mother who abandoned her, the half-brother she has come to cherish, and the uncle who has done everything for the undying love of his sister, Paula. This fast paced, time twisting, narrative takes the road movie to a new place, where moral ambiguity and other people’s past choices, are set to overwhelm a new generation.
