2016. 27 years after the regime change in Eastern Central-Europe. Magda, a 50-year old woman lives in poverty with her only son in a remote little village. Madga’s husband disappeared in 1989 under mysterious circumstances. According to village rumours, Magda was behind her husband’s disappearance and now Magda’s only support and hope is her son. When Magda’s son suddenly disappears one day, she begins a desperate search. While investigating, she learns about disturbing facts not only about her son, but also about an old crime from 1989. 1989. Due the regime change, the villagers are excited. Two young men, Werner and Kovacs believes these times are not only about the new opportunities, but this should also mean closure with the past. They plot a revenge against an ocer of the close by Soviet army base, who made suer the villagers during the most obscure years of communism. They push the ocer’s car into the bog of the backwater outside of the village and the ocer drowns in the slough. But the crime has an unwanted witness, Magda’s husband, whom Werner and Kovacs kill out of fear. In the beginning, the two young men remain close, but later their relationship sours when one of them becomes a winner of the regime change while the other is unable to successfully turn the opportunities into his own favour. Magda’s son becomes the victim of the two men’s rivalry in 2016. 2016. In the course of her investigation, Magda reveals Werner’s and Kovacs’s 27-year old crime, the killing of both the Soviet ocer and her husband, while she also nds her son. As the truth comes to light, she clears her name before the villagers, as well.
