    • COMMANDER ANITA FLORES is a quiet leader who has earned rank and respect among military officials, despite her gender. It has been ten years since she visited her hometown of Obando, Bulacan. The moment she steps off the bus, memories flood her senses.

Flashback. Twelve-year-old ANITA plays with her best friends, CARMEN and GOYING. Both CARMEN and GOYING have fathers who are Overseas Filipino Workers. ANITA’S father died fighting in the Philippine army, and she dreams of becoming a soldier someday. Life is routine, simple, and peaceful in the barrio.

Suddenly, everything changes when the beautiful PILAR arrives in town. Amidst gossip, PILAR opens a hilot (massage) parlor on the outskirts of the barrio. Years ago, PILAR left behind a romance with ANITA’S uncle OSCAR for a future as a nurse abroad. PILAR left for the city, and the village whispered rumors of her illegal abortion in Manila. Now, the brazen PILAR is back as a businesswoman and healer, kneading away the barrio’s tensions as a masseuse.

While men flocked and women whispered – little twelve-year old ANITA fell in love. Determined to one day marry her, ANITA musters up the courage to speak to PILAR, and the friendly woman befriends the young girl. OSCAR hears of PILAR’S return and the two resume their intense love affair. All the while, young women in the village begin to seek PILAR’S help in aborting their unwanted pregnancies, and after assisting one girl, PILAR, now pregnant with OSCAR’S baby, refuses to perform another abortion.

The Feast of Obando is approaching. Every year hundreds of people dance to Saint Claire and pray to be blessed with fertility and children. PILAR tells OSCAR that she is pregnant, and OSCAR ends their relationship.

The fiesta is beginning when ANITA notices a sickly PILAR. ANITA is distressed to see PILAR bleeding, and PILAR lies to ANITA to calm her. Despite of not feeling very well, Pilar manages to massage Anita until she was able to sleep. When Anita wakes up the next day, Pilar left without saying goodbye.

Present Day. ANITA finds herself ready for the possibility of a new love. Another story begins to unfold as ANITA dances all the way home.
