    • Synopsis
    • James is lost: A restless teenager constantly navigating the wilderness of his own mind. He struggles to deal with the absence of his father, and his strange fascination with death is starting to get out of hand. James has crawled into his shell. He spends most of his time held up in the attic, lost in a world of books and isolation. He has shut himself off from the world and his active imagination skews his sense of reality, leading him to believe he is cursed. He seems strange to other kids, and it doesn’t help that he claims to foresee certain peers’ deaths while villainizing his single mother, Abigail, a progressive mom who owns a plant nursery and is concerned about her son’s social peculiarities.
Visits with his psychiatrist, Walter, haven’t helped—though James does take a liking to outspoken fellow patient Val, who’s charmed by James’ awkward attempts at conversation. Abigail’s concern comes to a head when, a day after James predicts that his hamster Elliott will die… it indeed comes true. Certain that her son played a hand in his pet’s death and fearful he may be unstable, tensions boil over between mother and son.
James wanders from his home and into the frightening woods at night. He’s compelled by something he can't quite explain. He feels the need to explore. He needs to channel everything that has been building inside. But as he ventures into the darkness, strangers in the shadows seem to track his every move, following him into the city. He finally escapes their pursuit by ducking into a city bus where he meets Harmon, a mysterious kid who takes a liking to James, and welcomes him into his eccentric world.
Relationships are put to the test as James journeys through the wilderness of an intoxicating city. Eye-opening experiences and some harsh wake up calls prompt him to reveal a secret, and finally begin dealing with his reality.
