    • "Everyone Deserves a Second Chance" Such poignant words were uttered by Senator Leroy Johnson, the first black state representative since Reconstruction, to then governor Lester Maddox. These words momentarily tipped the scales thus convincing Governor Maddox to agree to allow the great Muhammad Ali to have his first fight in over three years in the state of Georgia, It is 1970. Muhammad Ali has been exiled from boxing since 1967 for his firm stance against the Vietnam War. Stripped of his title, convicted of draft evasion, facing a $10,000 fine, 5 years in prison, his passport is revoked, denied a license in all 50 stated. But in Atlanta that all changed. An ambitious Jewish attorney turned promoter, Atlanta's first Jewish mayor, and, Senator Leroy Johnson joined forces to make the impossible possible.
