    • A true story about a Tibetan family who flee their home when their human and religious rights are threatened, making the harrowing journey across the Himalayas to India, only to be met with more hardship until a romantic encounter changes the course of their fate forever.

Kunsang loved one thing in her life and that was her spiritual practice. From an early age on she had a very strongl calling to learn the secrets and rituals of her buddhist faith. After the loss of both of her parents as a young girl, she set off alone in search of the company of the most faithful to a remote monastery, high in the Himalayas. There she would learn the scriptures, meditations and prayers. Years passed and she became a woman. A young buddhist monk passing through was immediately captivated by her and they both fell in love. The ideas of celibacy weren't as strict in her young nun life and soon she became a baby girl.
Being torn between her devoutness and her growing family, Kunsang and Tserings moved their now growing family to an even more remote monastery where they enjoyed relative idyllic years in the high plains. But that was all to end as the encroaching Chinese cultural revolution was making its way felt throughout Tibet and targeting the monks and nuns as heir main source of aggression.

The family was in danger of being sent to rehabilitation camps or death. So once again led by her faith, Kunsang gathers her family and heads off into the Himalayas searching for India and the Dalai Lama.

The trip was a harrowing and dangerous experience, wrought with many close calls and near deaths but they soon made it across and safely landed in India. More sickness and misfortune are delivered to them and time and time again Kunsang is tested of her faith. When her young daughter, now on the verge of womanhood, is swept up into an intense and romantic encounter and asked to leave all they know for a strange and foreign land, Kunsang seeks the advise of her guru who strongly advises against the move. Now she must again question that faith which had been so instrumental in her survival and go against her beloved spiritual adviser to follow her own heart and intuition.

Across many mountains is the outward and inward story of a families journey from repression to freedom.
