Carnival is Brazil’s greatest cultural event. Millions of people from of all ages, genders and social class go out in the streets, usually wearing colorful costumes, to celebrate and party.
In addition to the street party, Rio de Janeiro also holds a parade of samba schools that takes place at the sambodromo (Sambadome). At this event, each school, that represents a poor community of the city, parades for 700m in 70 minutes telling a story in samba rhythm. At the end of the show, there is a selection of the best performance and one samba school is chosen as the Carnival Champion.
Globo exhibits the parade every year and due to its richness of colors, details and sounds of the event, Globo usually tests new technologies and production formats.
In 2016, Globo and NHK produced the show in 8K format dividing production tasks between the two companies.
