When the male relatives arrive they drive her out of the land of her father. Finding herself as an outcast she disappears into obscurity. Khutulun finds an unlikely companion whilst working incognito for a farmer in an isolated farmhouse. The farmer has shown favour to a small child Hongwu who had wondered onto his lands. The farmer allows the child to work for him and requests Khutulun to instruct Hongwu in the art of farming. A group of bandits break into the farm and attempt to abduct Hongwu and force him into a life of servitude, however Khutulun agrees to fight for the freedom of the boy.
