Description

Founded in 1999 by journalist Rino Sciarretta, Zivago Media is an independent production and distribution company. It specialises in the acquisition of Russian art house films (such as Kukushka by Aleksandr Rogozhkin, Alexandra and Taurus by Aleksandr Sokurov, Silent Souls by Aleksei Fedorchenko, The Postman's White Nights by Andrei Konchalovsky). As well as numerous short films (Eccoci qua directed by Alessandro Pascuzzo, Refugium Peccatorum directed by Stefano Alleva, Coincidenze directed by Gabriele Paoli based on Stefano Benni's homonymous novel, Sdrvgd't (Svegliati!) directed by Maristella Bonomo and Massimo Piovesana, among others) Zivago has produced documentaries: Memories about Sayat Nova by Levon Grigorian, presented in 2006 at the Rome Film Festival and in 2007 at the Tribeca Film Festival. The silence of Pelesjan by Pietro Marcello, made in collaboration with Rai Cinema. In 2011, it was shown in the Horizons section of the 68th Venice International Film Festival. In 2012 it was screened in the Signals: Regained section of the 41st edition of the Rotterdam Film Festival and out of competition at the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In 2013, it won the Special Prize of the National Academy of Armenian Cinema. Le Maratone di Peter by Giovanni Visentin. Dal Ritorno by Giovanni Cioni, was screened in 2015 in the international competition at the Biografilm Festival of Bologna and at the Cinéma du réel - Festival international de films documentaires. Dustur, the new documentary by Marco Santarelli, produced in association with Istituto Luce Cinecittà, presented at the 33rd Torino Film Festival in the section Italiana.doc (where has won the AVANTI Agenzia Valorizzazione Autori Nuovi Tutti Italiani and the Gli Occhiali di Gandhi Awards), at the 38th Cinéma du réel - Festival international de films documentaires (where has won the Youth Award) and at 26th Festival del Cinema Africano, d'Asia e America Latina (where has won the Razzismo Brutta Storia Award). Recently awarded with the Federico Gori prize at the Pistoia Presente Italiano festival and with the Prix Spécial du Jury at the Festival du Film Méditerranéen d'Annaba. Through the MedFilm Festival it has arrived in Tunisia with the second edition of the Giornate del Cinema Italiano in Tunis. Currently released in the Italian cinemas by Istituto Luce and chosen by FICE for “Racconti Italiani – I documentari al cinema”. Last March 3rd has obtained the Special Mention at Nastri d’Argento Award for its Attention to Social Issues. Atlante 1783 an experimental film by Maria Giovanna Cicciari has been presented as a world premier at SIC@SIC – Short Italian Cinema @ Settimana Internazionale della Critica, a new shorts section of 31st Venice International Film Critics' Week, born in collaboration with Istituto Luce Cinecittà to promote young Italian authors. Then it was screening at the 11th Rome Film Fest – Kino Panorama Italia in collaboration with Alice nella Città. It has been selected in the International Competition of DocLisboa 2016 and in the Prospettive Competition of Filmmaker Festival of Milan. Screened also in the Bright Future Short - Obstructed Landscape section of 46th edition of Rotterdam International Film Festival. Its first future film Monte, by Iranian director Amir Naderi - an Italy, Usa, France coproduction made in collaboration with Rai Cinema - has had its world premier at 73rd Venice International Film Festival in the Out of Competition Section. In Venice Amir Naderi has received the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Prize dedicated to a personality who has made an original contribution to innovation in contemporary cinema. Mentioned as Film della Critica by Sindacato Nazionale Critici Cinematografici Italiani – SNCC it has been presented at 21st Busan International Film Festival World Cinema section, at the 57th edition of the International Thessaloniki Film Festival, Open Horizons section and at the 17th edition of Tokyo FilmEx as Special Screening. Released in the italian cinemas from November 24th. On January 11th 2017 Monte was shown at MoMA in New York in occasion of “The Contenders” film exhibition. Zivago is currently producing the mokumentary Il Toro del Pallonetto by Luigi Barletta and developing Caro Giacomo by Vanina Lappa and Viaggio in Sicilia – Cercando Goethe a documentary by Peter Stein.
