- Synopsis
- The story takes place few decades into the reign of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The main character Genkuro Yorozu (played by Hiroshi Abe), who easily outsize others, carries a great sword on his back. This great sword is the “Taitei no Ken (Emperor’s Sword).” It is one of the three sacred treasures made from a metal nonexistent on earth called “orichalcum,” which grants the possessor great power beyond imagination. There exists two more such treasures created from the same metal “orichalcum” – “Toshin no Tokkosho (War God’s Single-Pronged Vajra)” and “Yuda no Kurusu (Judas’ Cross)” – with a legend that the possessor of all three treasures will be granted immense power great enough to even reign the whole world.
  Genkuro has been on a journey to find the other two sacred treasures as he accepted his late grandfather’s will passed on down through his father to “deliver the three sacred treasures to whom they were meant to be for.” During his journey, Genkuro encounters Mai (played by Kyoko Hasegawa), a beautiful princess whose life people are after because of her Toyotomi lineage. As a result of rescuing Princess Mai from the assassins, Genkuro now travels with her and her bodyguard Sasuke (played by Kankuro Kudo), a ninja of the Sanada clan. As they continue on their journey, Princess Mai starts showing puzzling behaviors. This was because Princess Mai has unknowingly been made a host to Ran, an alien who came to earth in search of orichalcum! The mystery deepens as it turns out that Botan (played by Meisa Kuroki), a mysterious, handsome swordsman, who is secretly keeping close watch of their journey, is also after orichalcum.
  There is also the skilled ninjas of the Iga clan, Haganbo (played by Riki Takeuchi), Kuromushi (played by Naomasa Musaka), Hime-yasha (played by Aya Sugimoto) and Toji of Tezuma (played by Koji Okura), as well as the Tsuchigumo Gang they controlled. They are on a mission to collect the three sacred treasures and to take the life of Princess Mai. The story intensifies with the attack of Daksha, Ran’s enemy who came after Ran from outer space! Daksha obstructs Genkuro and Mai’s journey in various forms, by changing its host from a wild bear to a hunter named Gonzo (played by Kenichi Endo), to Haganbo.
  Amidst the fierce fight over orichalcum against one enemy after another with supernatural skills, Genkuro smirks audaciously, “Cool!”
