    • Synopsis
    • The film is based on the novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky "Crime and Punishment." Actions take place in Kazakhstan of our days.
The film's protagonist - a student of the Philosophy Faculty. He rents a room in the basement at the home of an old woman far away from the city center and suffers from a lack of money and loneliness. Sometimes he goes to buy the bread in the nearest store and gradually the idea to rob this store appears in his mind. He was also pushed by the surrounding atmosphere of poverty and the ideology of total competition, where exist the division of people into rich and poor, strong and weak.
The student was influenced by dubious values and made the crime in which the owner of the store and one usual shopper became student ‘s crime victims. Immediately after these events, the student felt himself even more alone, cut off from all human relationships. The sense of guilt grew in his mind especially, when his beloved mother and sister came from the province to visit him. Gradually, the student realized what he had done and then came to the police and gave up.
The film still ends on an optimistic note - a girl who loves him came to the jail to visit him.
