    • Synopsis
    • “I felt it was impossible that I had been a girl in those corners, and later I feared I was no longer myself”, read the first pages of Cesare Pavese’s Women on Their Own, the book that triggered Santiago Palavecino’s third feature. The phrase also drives to read the moment in which the director –together with his main character Celina– arrives to the big country house in which most of the story will take place: the point in which for some of the film’s girls the past and present time have turned into unreal, chimerical territories. Palavecino spreads out patches or blinks of genres (thriller, horror, melodrama) over the palette of moods he uses to portray these lone women, and the result is a mysterious and narcotic film that revolves around the sparks from these combinations. But mostly calls upon us, dragging us through blows of beauty and magnetism and forcing us to be the question marks that close the questions this formidable film poses.
