    • Synopsis
    • A coming-of-age tale that is also about the impending loss of a parent, the engaging, unpretentious “Nena” gets a breakout performance from Abbey Hoes in the title role. It’s nearing the end of its festival run, but further international prospects are likely for this small-gauge but skillfully wrought drama.
It is summer 1989, cracks are appearing in the Wall and Europe is holding its breath to see what autumn will bring. When her disabled father tries to commit suicide, his death wish hurts 16-year old Nena to the core. Meanwhile she is also falling deeply in love for the first time - with Carlo, whose father has just come out of the closet. While discovering her own lust for life, she comes to realize that the life of her father Martin is growing bleaker.
