    • Synopsis
    • Jappeloup is a true story about tenacity, disobedience, disillusion, friendship, family bonds, courage and... ultimately victory.
Jappeloup was a horse that was deemed too small to become a champion. Pierre Durand was a show jumper who lost faith in his own destiny.
Together, the rider and the horse, rode triumphantly into show jumping history, their relationship being often as chaotic as a show jumping course itself -- with elements of betrayal, loyalty, and love.
The duo suffered a crushing defeat at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics when, in mid-competition, Jappeloup stalled and threw his rider over one of the obstacles. The story could very well have ended there with public humiliation in a global arena.
Pierre Durand very nearly withdrew from show jumping altogether and would have if it wasn’t for the support of his wife and father, and Jappeloup’s groom Raphaëlle’s unwavering faith in this small but exceptional horse.
Pierre Durand eventually started afresh, reconciled with Jappeloup and placed himself firmly on the road to victory.
Together they finally triumphed, four years later in Seoul and became Olympic gold medal champions.
Pierre Durand’s “small” black horse is now considered as one of the greatest show jumping horses of all time.
Guillaume Canet, one of the most talented actors of his generation, and himself an exceptional show jumper, wrote the screenplay and portrays Pierre Durand. He embodies this gripping adventure which mirrors his own personal story.
