In a mixture of documentary with theatre, we’ll explore the life of Isabel de Godin, a relentless adventurer of the 18th century, who travelled from nowadays Ecuador, through the Amazon Rainforest to France, in pursuit of her dream. Little did she know that through this odyssey she would discover the power of will over the certainty of death.
In search of her past and her path, we’ll encounter inspiring people, whose experiences rhyme with Isabel’s and give live to this past character, whilst unveiling hidden themes still hushed to this day.

      SYNOPSIS

Through the epic story of an adventurous mestizo woman, born in 1728 in Guayaquil (in the then-Vice-Royalty of Peru, actual Ecuador) and married with a French member of the Geodesic Mission, we explore not only a past and valiant life, but also the identity of being mestizo, which to this day determines the character of modern Ecuador and of family and gender relations.
Told through a group of living people whose lives reflect realities undergone by Isabel de Godin, we’ll discover the incredible journey of this bold Ecuadorian woman whose desire to reunite with her husband who left for France brought her to traverse the Andes and the Amazon Rainforest in order to take a ship to cross the Atlantic and land in France. This odyssey confronted her with prejudice and death, loneliness and despair, and enlightens us about still present idiosyncrasies and frustrations linked with class and gender determination.
With the help of the actress Carmen Vicente who incarnated Isabel de Godin in a theatre piece, we’ll discover two worlds that defined Isabel de Godin, her homeland Ecuador and her dreamland enlightened Europe and through this journey without return in a back and forth time movement we’ll explore our own mestizo personality, which in a globalizing society is doomed to become the universal identity.
